It Doesn’t Have To Be A Struggle
If you’re anything like me then you’ve tried some pretty crazy diets over the years. Who hasn’t bought into the idea that cutting out carbs or replacing meals with shakes might be the magic bullet to a thinner body?
I’d pretty much resolved myself to the belief that I’d always have to struggle with my weight. Yet…deep down I also believed that I was a smart, motivated woman, and I had it together in so many other areas of my life. So why was being at my natural weight so elusive?
Many of us are programmed at a pretty young age to ignore what we know is intuitively best for ourselves and take our advice and cues from external sources – much of it misguided.
Right away you’ll notice that this is different than any diet you’ve ever tried. I won’t ask you to stop eating the foods you love, or keep track of every single calorie you eat. Why not? Because there’s a better way. Diets are restrictive and force you to eat in ways that are not natural. They’re not sustainable and eventually they lead to backlash and weight gain.
I understand the impulse to want to eat the cookies. Really, I get it. However, what happens is we’ve created a misguided way to tend our emotional lives. In the moment it feels like a convenient escape, but the loneliness, the anxiety, the sadness and fear are still there after the cookies are gone. Bummer.
I finally got tire
d of the constant struggle and I went in search of a better way. It’s not about a quick fix, and I found out that it has nothing to do with willpower at all. It has everything to do with making peace with who you are, understanding why you eat when you’re not hungry and changing how you think about food.
