I tend to get a little frenzied this time of year with all the gift-buying, decorating, parties, traveling & other energy-consuming activities. In actuality, our crazy-busy schedules fall out of sync with the earth’s natural cycles. We tend to celebrate with excess by staying up late and socializing, but with less daylight hours, winter is actually a time for storing energy.
Permission to Rest
To stay in tune with winter’s restful nature, give yourself permission to sleep in on a Saturday morning and skip social events that feel more like obligations than fun.
Permission to Nourish
Rather than fighting your natural instinct, feed your body what feels intuitively right. Minnesota winters are really cold, so I gravitate toward making slow-simmering stews and sipping warm drinks.
Permission to Be Selfish
Put yourself at the top of your to-do list and give yourself permission to goof-off, go to yoga, read for fun, sweat out frustrations in a spinning class, have coffee with friends. Whatever fills you up is what is really important. You’ll never regret it.
